GEMS, New York-Presbyterian Hospital ink novel pact

GE Medical Systems (GEMS) and  New York-Presbyterian Hospital have signed a multi-year contract for GEMS to supply the 2,395-bed academic medical center with health imaging equipment and service, as well as management techniques.

The unique aspect of the pact is New York-Presbyterian Hospital adopting GEMS' management development and performance improvement methods. The facility will use the techniques to enhance management, service quality and operations, as hospital employees are trained in GEMS' quality and process improvement programs.

Michael Berman, executive vice president and hospital director of New York-Presbyterian Hospital, said the hospital expects to save more than $100 million within the next five years by adopting GEMS' strategies.

On the hardware side, New York-Presbyterian Hospital will have access to GEMS' imaging technologies, such as digital mammography, digital x-ray, CT, MRI and positron emission tomography (PET).
