IDC survey: EMC tops in storage systems market

EMC Corp. took top honors in the market for external RAID disk storage systems and networked storage systems in the third quarter.

 A survey from global IT market intelligence and advisory firm International Data Corp. (IDC) concluded that EMC achieved a revenue share of 21 percent, up from 19 percent in the third quarter of 2002. EMC also increased external RAID revenue at 20 percent year-over-year.

 The IDC report also noted that EMC and Dell Inc. posted the strongest year-over-year factory revenue growth in the third quarter with gains of 20 percent and 23 percent, respectively. Dell closed in fourth position overall, behind No. 2 Hewlett-Packard Co. and No. 3 IBM Corp.
