IDX gains; Two pacts down, three to go for U.K. National Health Service

IDX Systems Corp. is partnering with British Telecomunications plc in a proposal to supply clinical information technology systems and services to the United Kingdom National Health Service (NHS) for the London region.

The NHS this week announced that British Telecom has been selected as the local service provider for London. IDX expects to finalize soon a definitive subcontract agreement to provide its clinical information system technology to British Telecom.

IDX has serviced European customers since 1996 and has maintained a London office since 2000. British Telecomm is a wholly-owned subsidiary of BT Group. Its principal activities include local, national and international telecommunications services, and broadband and internet products and services.

Cerner Corp. also is vying for one or more of regional contracts that are up for NIS consideration. Earlier this week, Cerner said that it was disappointed it was not selected for two pacts already awarded, but the company remains "in the running" for the remaining three Britain's remaining regions, which account for approximately 70 percent of the population.

On Monday, NHS awarded 10-year contracts to British Telecom for the London region and to Accenture for the North East region.
