National Minority Quality Forum creates HIV/AIDS index tool
The National Minority Quality Forum (NMQF), a nonprofit healthcare research and educational organization, has launched an internet-based index tool that maps HIV/AIDS prevalence and patient count by U.S. congressional district and by county.
The HIV/AIDS Index can assist healthcare practitioners, policy makers, advocacy groups and infectious disease researchers in identifying and quantifying HIV and AIDS, and also assist in efforts to calibrate prevention and treatment efforts, according to the NMQF.
The HIV/AIDS Index builds on the NMQF's HIV/AIDS Atlas, introduced by NMQF in 2009, which currently has more than 30,000 registered users. The index taps ArcView data visualization technology from geographic information systems technology developer Esri to enable clinicians and others to map HIV and AIDS prevalence and patient count by congressional district and by county, the NMQF stated.
The index confirms that the areas with the greatest HIV/AIDS burden can be found in contiguous ZIP codes within defined congressional districts and counties, according to NMQF, based in Washington, D.C.
