Philips prepares for ACC's IHE demonstration

Supporting the Integrating the Health Enterprise (IHE) initiative, Philips Medical Systems said it is participating in the IHE Pavilion at next week's American College of Cardiology (ACC) meeting (Orlando, March 6 - 8) where multiple vendors will demonstrate interoperability and the sharing of clinical information.

IHE is an initiative led by healthcare professionals and industry groups to improve the way computer systems in healthcare share information. IHE advocates improving systems integration, with focus on clinical workflow, so vital information can be passed seamlessly and securely from system to system within and across departments, removing barriers to optimal patient care.

Philips said it will showcase the latest workflow enhancements and multivendor data sharing capabilities of the Philips HaemoSphere monitoring system, Philips Allura Xper FD cardiovascular x-ray system, and Philips Xcelera cardiology information system.

IHE has worked in other healthcare domains for the past eight years, exploring new approaches to workflow standardization and information management through the use of industry standards such as DICOM and HL7. The group is currently one year into its cardiology program that focuses on streamlining workflow and improving patient care through standards-based information sharing.

Philips said it will offer a 20-minute presentation on "Workflow in the Cath Lab" at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 6, in the IHE booth.
