NDS Surgical Imaging (NDSsi) has acquired Dome Imaging Systems, the medical business unit of Planar Systems, for a cash purchase of $34.25 million.

According to the Beaverton, Ore.-based Planar, proceeds from the sale will be used “to pay off the full outstanding balance of its current line of credit and augment future working capital needs.”

Planar also said that it “will be working with NDSsi over the next several months to ensure that its medical business unit customers are fully supported in the transition.”

Dome manufactures medical display products for diagnostic imaging and patient care applications. Dome’s customers include PACS OEM suppliers and medical IT resellers to healthcare providers, according to NDSsi.

The acquisition is structured as a sale of all of Dome’s outstanding capital stock and includes all of Planar’s medical-grade diagnostic imaging and patient monitor products, but will not include other Planar products sold its business units to medical end users, such as specialty EL displays sold through its industrial business unit and its commercial-grade displays sold through its commercial business unit, Planar said.

The combined entity now has the capability to connect of PACS imaging and surgical video/informatics for delivery to the radiology reading room and the operating room, according to John Murphy, president and CEO of NDSsi.
