RSNA appoints new leaders
The Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) appointed Gary J. Becker, MD, as president; Hedvig Hricak, MD, PhD, as president-elect; and Burton P. Drayer, MD, as chairman of the board at its 94th annual meeting in Chicago this week.
Becker is a professor in vascular and interventional radiology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson, Ariz., and has served as executive director of the American Board of Radiology since January. He was elected to the ABR Board of Trustees in 2000.
As president, Becker said that he hopes to continue his society’s efforts in supporting new imaging technologies. “RSNA will play a crucial role in advancing the science of quantitative imaging,” Becker said. “It is RSNA’s duty to educate its member and the medical community at large in how to best use important new technologies, informatics and quantitative methods to benefit patients.”
Hricak, chairman of the department of radiology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, is currently a professor of radiology at Cornell University Medical College, as well as an attending radiologist at Memorial Hospital, also located in New York City.
Drayer is currently executive vice president for risk at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City and the Dr. Charles M. and Marilyn Newman Professor and chairman of the department of radiology (1995-present) at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He also served as president of Mount Sinai Hospital from November 2003 to September 2008.
