Sorin gains FDA nod for heart-lung machine

The FDA has granted clearance to the Sorin C5 Heart-Lung Machine for use in patients whose heart and lungs are stopped briefly during a cardiothoracic surgical procedure.

Sorin said that its C5 provides blood oxygenation and circulation to the organs and the brain during a surgical procedure with an updated, ergonomic design.

According to the Milan-based company, the C5 heart-lung machine is more compact and offers an upgraded safety system for patients.
