Xilinx, Siemens developing new 3D imaging technology
Xilinx Inc. a leading programmable logic supplier, and Siemens Medical Solutions, this week announced a collaboration to develop innovative 3D medical imaging products. As part of the agreement, Xilinx will act as FPGA (field programmable gate array) supplier for image processing products in development. Siemens also plans to offer the technology as an imaging development platform to enable similar applications throughout the industry.
Siemens has chosen to partner with Xilinx due to its Virtex-4 programmable technology as well as the technical expertise of the Xilinx Design Services (XDS) team. The two companies have worked together to define an FPGA-based programmable system architecture that uses the extremely high-speed embedded DSP (digital signal processing) performance and computational capabilities of theVirtex-4 SX platform.
