ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The American Society of Radiologic Technologists has launched its new online digital imaging educational series, Essentials of Digital Imaging.

Featuring seven modules, the interactive series provides medical imaging professionals and students with a comprehensive overview of the fundamentals of digital imaging. It includes easy-to-understand animations, videos and a collection of images that reveal the dynamics of producing, analyzing and storing a digital image. 

According to ASRT Chief Academic Officer Myke Kudlas, M.Ed., R.T.(R)(QM), the series provides radiologic technologists with in-depth information about advances in digital imaging technology. “The transition from film to digital imaging has improved the radiology workflow and patient care process, and this series will help radiologic technologists stay up to date on advances in technology.” 

Written by seasoned medical imaging professionals, the modules cover a broad range of digital imaging topics. For example, the first module covers the key component of digital imaging systems – the digital imaging receptor. Subsequent modules explain processing, display, image analysis, the digital image storage system known as PACS and the importance of having a quality assurance program in imaging departments.

In addition, the series includes a module that focuses on dose reduction and patient safety in digital imaging.

Radiologic technologists can earn continuing education credit for each module. Participants who successfully complete all the modules will earn 7 Category A CE credits and will receive a document from ASRT recognizing their achievement.

The ASRT also offers a non-CE credit institutional version for educators and managers who would like to use the series for educational purposes. The package includes seven modules, a test bank, an image library, transcripts and license for unlimited use in the classroom or institutional setting.
