Carestream Ships More Than 6,000 Wireless DR Detectors
ROCHESTER, N.Y., April 24 — Carestream Health has shipped more than 6,000 DRX detectors since launching the CARESTREAM DRX-1, a revolutionary wireless X-ray detector used in surgical suites, ER/ICU and radiology departments—as well as clinics, imaging centers, nursing homes and field military hospitals. The DRX-1 detector delivers high-quality, affordable digital X-ray images in about four seconds.
“Our wireless DRX detectors and DRX systems deliver exceptional image quality while simultaneously improving productivity and controlling costs,” said Diana L. Nole, President, Digital Medical Solutions, Carestream Health. “These attributes enable healthcare providers of all sizes to enhance patient care while adapting to lower reimbursements.”
The company’s family of DRX-based systems help streamline workflow, improve productivity and enhance patient care in both in-room and mobile environments. Carestream’s DRX-based portfolio includes the CARESTREAM DRX-Revolution Mobile X-Ray System, CARESTREAM DRX-1 System, CARESTREAM DRX-Mobile Retrofit kit, CARESTREAM DRX-Evolution suite, CARESTREAM DRX-Transportable System, CARESTREAM DRX-Ascend System, and the Q-Rad-Digital DRX-Series from Quantum Medical Imaging that is sold through the company’s large dealer network in the United States and Canada. Quantum Medical Imaging is a division of Carestream.
The DRX family also includes a second detector, the cesium iodide-based CARESTREAM DRX-1C, that offers exceptional image quality and improved DQE (detective quantum efficiency). The DRX-1C detector’s superior image quality makes it an ideal fit for orthopedic, trauma, pediatric and other specialty environments.
Carestream has also demonstrated a smaller-format 25 cm x 30 cm CARESTREAM DRX 2530C Detector* as a work in progress. The smaller detector is designed to fit into pediatric incubator trays and offer higher DQE (detective quantum efficiency), which can lead to lower dose requirements than CR cassettes or gadolinium scintillator detectors. The new DRX 2530C detector is intended for use with the CARESTREAM DRX-Revolution or CARESTREAM DRX-Mobile Retrofit Kits for mobile imaging of neonatal or pediatric patients or with the DRX-Evolution and DRX-Ascend for orthopedic applications and other tabletop imaging that can benefit from a smaller detector.
Patient care in ED, ICU, pediatric ICU and other environments is enhanced with an innovative Tube and Line/Pneumothorax Visualization feature that uses a single exposure to display an enhanced companion image. This companion image can be enhanced for a clear view of tubes and PICC lines or to accentuate the appearance of free air in the chest cavity. Allowing physicians to verify correct line placements in seconds or identify the presence of a pneumothorax helps improve patient care and comfort, while simultaneously reducing the need for multiple imaging exams and multiple exposures.
Carestream’s DRX detectors work with existing X-ray equipment and can easily be moved to any DRX room or mobile DRX system, a feature referred to as the “X-Factor.” Healthcare providers can also move the detectors to new imaging systems when existing x-ray systems become outdated.
