Consorta, Elekta ink group purchasing agreement
Group purchasing organization Consorta Inc. signed a contract with Elekta Inc. for its broad range of stereotactic radiosurgery and associated neuroscience products.
Through the agreement, physicians will have access to the Leksell Gamma Knife, Leksell Stereotactic System and Magneto-Encephalography system.
Used for performing intracranial stereotactic radiosurgery, the Leksell Gamma Knife assists in the treatment of brain disorders without patients having to undergo invasive surgery.
The tool is used for a variety of neurological disorders, including AVMs, vestibular schwannomas, meningiomas, pituitary tumors, trigeminal nerve targets and brain metastases. Research is being conducted on other possible uses of the Leksell Gamma Knife, such as treating epilepsy, Parkinson's disease and uveal melanoma.
Also included in the contract are the Leksell Stereotactic System, which enables physicians to perform precision microsurgery, and the Magneto-Encephalography system, which is used for pre-surgical mapping of the brain.
Consorta's membership includes more than 400 acute-care facilities representing 55,000 beds and more than 1,700 non-acute care sites.
