The coast of Wales provides some of the most stunning views in Europe. The harbors, cliffs, lighthouses—there's no wonder tourists come from the world over. But recently, a wayward traveler washed up on a Welsh beach some 4,000 miles from home.
Menai, an Olive Ridley turtle usually found in the waters off North Africa, was discovered and taken to a local zoo, where experts noticed she couldn't dive underwater. Instead, she just bobbed along the surface. The large turtle received a CT scan Royal Veterinary College in Hatfield, which showed a lung abnormality that affected Menai's buoyancy.
"There are no huge worries now, but our biggest concern was that there was a serious condition," said Frankie Hobro, director of the Anglesay Sea Zoo. "But we are happy now that we know what the problem is and we can now research what treatment she needs to recover."
