Transcription firm buys app vendor

Transcription vendor Spheris Inc. will acquire software vendor Vianeta Communications of Milpitas, Calif., it was announced late last month. Acquisition terms were not disclosed.

Vianeta sells a suite of health information management software that includes dictation, transcription, speech recognition, document imaging, and chart distribution applications. The software can be purchased or accessed on a subscription basis via the application service provider computing model. Spheris sells dictation/transcription software only through the application service provider model. Consequently, the acquisition of Vianeta will give it an expanded product line and another way to market its products.
