New board will advise Gamma Medica molecular breast imaging
Gamma Medica, makers of molecular breast imaging systems, announced April 17 that the company has created a strategic advisory board to counsel the Salem, N.H., based company’s operations.
The board will be led by Hologic’s previous chief executive officer, Robert Cascella. The company says it is calling on Cascella’s expertise as development and commercialization of a new molecular imaging system for the detection of breast cancer is rolled out.
“I look forward to utilizing my women’s imaging experience and expertise to collaborate with the new board and advise the company as it continues to develop and commercialize this important tool,” Cascella said in a release.
The board will also include R. James Brenner, MD, board certified in diagnostic and nuclear radiology and director of breast imaging for Bay Imaging Consultants, an imaging group in the East Bay of Northern California; Sanjiv Sam Gambhir, MD, PhD, active chairman of the department of radiology, director of molecular imaging at Stanford School of Medicine in Stanford, Calif.; Jeffrey Mendel, MD, a lecturer at Tufts Medical School in Boston; Margo Moskos, MD, senior staff breast radiologist at Massachusetts General Hospital also in Boston; Andrew Maidment, PhD, a board-certified medical physicist and researcher for the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and Robin B. Shermis, MD, a senior managing partner for Toledo Radiological Associates in Toledo, Ohio.
“Gamma Medica is committed to providing more efficient and effective imaging across the entire breast cancer continuum, from detection to diagnostics and treatment assessment,” Gamma Medica president and chief executive officer Jim Calandra said. “We look forward to working with our team of medical experts and leading clinical radiologists to ensure our product offerings benefit patients, clinicians, and the healthcare system overall.”
