New retrofit SPECT system
Existing preclinical CT platforms now can be retrofitted with a scaled-down SPECT system, announced Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, molecular imaging company Cubresa April 16.
The first system will be added to Biomedical Translational Imaging Centre (BIOTIC) of the Izaak Walton Killman (IWK) Health Centre, a pediatric and women’s hospital in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
“Cubresa’s attachable SPECT allows us to perform research, along with our clinical partners, that will advance the development of next-generation clinical diagnostics for a variety of diseases including epilepsy, Alzheimer’s and others,” said Steven D. Beyea, lead scientist IWK’s BIOTIC, via press release. “Such innovations in the early diagnosis of diseases are critical to improved healthcare delivery.”
The primary function of these newly hybrid molecular systems is to quicken translational research and new drug trials. They have a slim bore and close-to-contact detectors.
“We are designing products to work with a variety of small animal CT scanners, providing customers with a lot of flexibility in upgrading their equipment,” added James Schellenberg, founder and CEO of Cubresa, first incorporated in 2011.
