Rensselaer launches imaging center

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute has launched the new Center for Modeling, Simulation and Imaging in Medicine (CeMSIM) within the School of Engineering in Troy, N.Y.

CeMSIM seeks to develop modeling, simulation and imaging technology for healthcare and transition those technologies to clinical practice—from the lab bench to the hospital bedside, said Rensselaer.

The five major areas CeMSIM will engage in are: modeling, simulation and imaging in medical diagnosis; clinical medicine and therapy (biofluids, mass transport, cardiovascular and musculoskeletal biomechanics, soft tissue biomechanics, regenerative medicine, nuclear medicine and neural engineering); surgery; algorithms, multiscale and computing; medical visualization and cognitive issues.

The first institutions to partner with CeMSIM are Harvard Medical School, Tufts University and the University of Houston.
