Bringing awareness to the plight of traumatic brain injury victims
March is Brain Injury Awareness Month, an effort undertaken by The Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA), which has worked to provide help to those dealing with the life-altering affects of brain injuries for more than 35 years.
“Each year BIAA leads the brain injury community in raising awareness about brain injuries by designating the month of March as a time to recognize and support the millions of Americans who live with brain injuries,” the association said in a press release.
More than 5 million Americans live with disabilities related to a traumatic brain injury, according to the BIAA, at a cost of more than $76 billion each year.
“People living with brain injuries want the same things we all want: a good job, someone to love, a nice home, and fun in their lives,” the BIAA said. “They want to be defined by who they are as people, not by the challenges presented by their injuries.”
