Fujifilm is announcing a first-of-its-kind voice command feature to control its point-of-care ultrasound systems, effectively making them hands-free.
The voice assistant application works on select Sonosite units, allowing them to be controlled from a distance, which is useful for sterile procedures, such as when scanning for central venous access or peripheral nerve block.
With a voice command, sonographers are able to access most of the system's critical features, such as the ability to freeze and save images, adjust gain settings and add color flow, without the need to touch the unit.
“Performing ultrasound without having to touch and configure controls not only helps to maintain a sterile environment and enhance flexibility but makes performing an exam more accessible for every level of user,” Rich Fabian, president and CEO of Fujifilm Sonosite said in an announcement.
The voice command feature also allows for an assistant to help complete an exam without needing to be in the same room as a patient, facilitating a safer, cleaner environment.
