Michelson develops OCT probe for soft tissue imaging

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging systems provider Michelson Diagnostics has developed a probe for the in vivo imaging of oral and gynecological tissue, for use with its VivoSight Multi-Beam OCT imaging system.

The Soft Tissue Probe is 9 cm long and provides both 2D and 3D images over a 5 mm x 5 mm area and will provide in vivo images at better than 7.5 µm lateral resolution, said the Kent, England-based company.

Michelson said that the probe will help physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of oral and cervical cancers, and also will be suitable for imaging tumor margins prior to surgery.

Positron, a New York-based nuclear imaging company, will now provide Upbeat Cardiology Solutions with advanced PET/CT systems and services.

The nuclear imaging isotope shortage of molybdenum-99 may be over now that the sidelined reactor is restarting. ASNC's president says PET and new SPECT technologies helped cardiac imaging labs better weather the storm.

CMS has more than doubled the CCTA payment rate from $175 to $357.13. The move, expected to have a significant impact on the utilization of cardiac CT, received immediate praise from imaging specialists.
