Swedish researchers focus on breast cancer risk
Swedish researchers are recruiting 100,000 women for KARMA (Karolinska mammogram project for identifying risk factors for breast cancer), a 10-year study of breast cancer risk factors.
Researchers from the Karolinska Institute in Solna and Lund University in Lund will collaborate on the project, which targets women between the ages of 40 and 74 years and is designed to identify women at risk of breast cancer and factors affecting risk levels, according to Per Hall, MD, PhD, a Karolinska Institute professor who will lead the study.
Participants, including women with a history of breast cancer, will complete a questionnaire on lifestyle and family history and undergo mammography and a blood test.
