VIDEO: Cardiac CT as a front-line chest pain exam in the ED

Coronary CT Angiography (CCTA) has evolved into a much more helpful resource than interventional cardiologists may have originally believed. In fact, the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) emphasized in a new expert consensus statement that CCTA provides specialists with an effective tool in the preparation and optimization of coronary procedures. The 2021 chest pain guidelines elevated CTA to a class 1A recommendation. Harold Litt , MD, explains the use of CCTA in the ED.

Harold Litt, MD, explains the use of cardiac CT as a primary imaging exam for chest pain at his emergency department over the past decade.

PET/CT findings predict post-treatment, radiation-induced hypothyroidism

Radiation-induced hypothyroidism is common yet underdiagnosed, potentially owing to a lack of follow-up consensus in patients treated with radiation therapy for head and neck cancers.

MRI scans portray the significant impact of childhood neglect

troubled child

“Here we show that that the opportunities that a child has in early life to learn and grow will impact not just their behavior but their actual brain development and brain structure for years to come,” authors of the new research shared.

VIDEO: Use cases and implementation strategies for radiology artificial intelligence

Charles E. Kahn, Jr., MD, MS, Editor of the the journal Radiology: Artificial Intelligence, and professor and vice chair of radiology at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. He has been heavily involved in radiology informatics and has seen up close the evolution of radiology toward deeper integration with AI. #RSNA

Charles Kahn, Jr., MD, editor of the the journal Radiology: Artificial Intelligence, and professor and vice chair of radiology at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, explains the work involved integrating AI in radiology systems and the role of AI in augmenting patient care.

FAPI PET/CT findings linked with risk of sudden cardiac death

Chest pain

Experts involved in the research suggested that these findings indicate a potential role for FAPI PET/CT imaging in detecting changes in myocardial fibrosis, noting that it could be more sensitive to earlier changes than standard cardiac MRI.

Is laughter the best medicine? Why patients view a sense of humor as an admirable trait in radiologists

In a new study, patients who were subject to a "humorous" intervention reported feeling less anxious during their exam and more receptive to discussions with a radiologist.

VIDEO: The expanding role of cardiac CT in electrophysiology

CT has been used for planning and procedural guidance in pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) for about 20 years. It shows the anatomy to the electrophysiologist. The EPs also can load the imaging into their EP mapping system. It also shows them the location of the esophagus and the phrenic nerve so they can avoid these during the procedures. #PVI #EPeeps

Harold Litt, MD, division chief of cardiothoracic imaging and director of the Center for Advanced CT Imaging Sciences at the Perelman School of Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania, explains the role of cardiac CT in EP procedures.
