A team from Singapore demonstrated that an object detection convolutional neural network (CNN) could accurately detect and localize fractures on wrist x-rays, according to a Jan. 30 study published in Radiology: Artificial Intelligence. The method may be more verifiable than traditional CNNs.

Hospitalized women with ischemic stroke are less likely than men to be evaluated by stroke specialists and receive specialized imaging scans and other diagnostic testing in hospitals, according to research being presented at this year's American Stroke Association International Stroke Conference in Honolulu.

In 2018, the FDA approved a total of 106 new medical devices including medical imaging technologies—surpassing their record in 2017 of 99 novel device approvals, according to a recent statement from FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, MD, and Jeff Shuren, MD, director of the Center for Devices and Radiological Health.
