Which patients are most likely to forgo follow-up imaging?

To tackle health disparities between Chicago’s West Side and wealthier, predominantly white neighborhoods elsewhere in the city, Rush University Medical Center is leading a group of nine hospitals and health systems to make investments and hire people from disadvantaged communities.

When incidental findings are detected, follow-up imaging is usually recommended. But when it comes to indeterminate abdominal findings, more than 36 percent of patients did not return for follow-up imaging, according to a single-center study published in the American Journal of Roentgenology.

Hiring ED expeditor improves CT workflow, decreases turnaround times

The Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography developed and published the new document to help educate healthcare providers who regularly treat acute chest pain in the emergency department (ED). 

Researchers led by Soterios Gyftopoulos, MD, radiologist at New York University’s Langone Medical Center in New York City, found that adding the role to standard ED workflow decreased CT workup time by 35 percent and completion time by 22 percent, according to findings published in the Journal of the American College of Radiology.

Machine learning hype is increasing among imaging professionals, report finds

According to a new market report from Reaction Data, 77 percent of medical imaging professionals believe that machine learning is “important," compared to 65 percent in 2017. Additionally, 59 percent of respondents reported they “understand” machine learning in 2018, compared to 52 percent in 2017.
