Cardiac Imaging

While cardiac ultrasound is the widely used imaging modality for heart assessments, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and nuclear imaging are also used and are often complimentary, each offering specific details about the heart other modalities cannot. For this reason the clinical question being asked often determines the imaging test that will be used.

Flying across the U.S. equivalent to a chest x-ray?

Researchers have recently found that there are radiation clouds that, if one were exposed to for long enough, could affect health. Data suggests that a flight across the U.S. is equivalent to getting one chest x-ray; doing so while flying through a radiation cloud would double that exposure.

Medical imaging’s impact on history—yet another reason researchers need funding

Modern medical imaging technology has made for quicker diagnoses, less invasive surgeries and improved public health—and, as everyone within the industry knows, these advances are just the beginning. Cutting-edge modalities and techniques promise to let clinicians use virtual reality to find colorectal polyps or measure the shape of a prostate to determine whether or not there’s cancer.

Research explores laser-based imaging platform for atherosclerosis

A new laser-based camera could one day become the tool that will help physicians know who is at risk of atheroscerlosis, by providing better views of potential problem areas.

MRI provides new insight into different forms of heart failure

MRI was used to measure oxygen consumption in the legs of heart failure patients by researchers at the University of Texas, who from this noninvasive technique gained extra insight into different forms of heart failure.

MRI shows changes in shape of astronauts' brains

While the discovery of space has proven to spark the interest of many, physicians used MRI scans to discover the profound effects space has on an astronaut’s brain.

In our complex, multi-site tertiary care imaging department our challenge is to gather data about our imaging operations and create insights from it to help us make better business decisions, streamline operations and optimize access to care.

ASPYRA PACS Receives CE Mark

ASPYRA, LLC announced today that they have received the CE Mark on their PACS products including MedVIEW with AccessNET.

Brain scans showed 14 patients suddenly hit with severe amnesia

A federal report released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) showed 14 mysterious cases of sudden, severe amnesia in Massachusetts between 2012 and 2016, noted by medical researchers.

Positron, a New York-based nuclear imaging company, will now provide Upbeat Cardiology Solutions with advanced PET/CT systems and services.

The nuclear imaging isotope shortage of molybdenum-99 may be over now that the sidelined reactor is restarting. ASNC's president says PET and new SPECT technologies helped cardiac imaging labs better weather the storm.

CMS has more than doubled the CCTA payment rate from $175 to $357.13. The move, expected to have a significant impact on the utilization of cardiac CT, received immediate praise from imaging specialists.
