Enterprise Imaging

Enterprise imaging brings together all imaging exams, patient data and reports from across a healthcare system into one location to aid efficiency and economy of scale for data storage. This enables immediate access to images and reports any clinical user of the electronic medical record (EMR) across a healthcare system, regardless of location. Enterprise imaging (EI) systems replace the former system of using a variety of disparate, siloed picture archiving and communication systems (PACS), radiology information systems (RIS), and a variety of separate, dedicated workstations and logins to view or post-process different imaging modalities. Often these siloed systems cannot interoperate and cannot easily be connected. Web-based EI systems are becoming the standard across most healthcare systems to incorporate not only radiology, but also cardiology (CVIS), pathology and dozens of other departments to centralize all patient data into one cloud-based data storage and data management system.

RSNA: PACSGear to demonstrate enterprise suite

PACSGear (Booth 8908), the healthcare communications technology company based in Pleasanton, Calif., is introducing the PACSGear Enterprise Imaging Platform at the 97th Annual Meeting & Scientific Assembly of the RSNA, Nov. 27 to Dec. 2, in Chicago.

Imaging informatics: Still strong after all these years

Mark Twain famously quipped, Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated. The same may be true of the RIS/PACS market on the cusp of 2011. For years, RIS/PACS has been pegged as a commodity, yet the imaging informatics field continues to innovate and display its relevance to the ever-evolving practice of radiology, as evidenced by both educational sessions and vendors offerings at the 97th Annual Meeting and Scientific Assembly  in Chicago Nov. 27 to Dec. 2. Read on for Health Imagings picks for sessions in image management and informatics and be sure to subscribe to our monthly portal to stay on top of the latest news in image management and informatics.

RSNA: Carestream to display DR system, informatics and mammo upgrades

Carestream Health (Booth 1611) is showcasing its latest offerings in digital radiography, informatics and womens health at the 97th Annual Meeting & Scientific Assembly of the RSNA, Nov. 27 to Dec. 2 in Chicago.

JACR: Cost reduction at the flip of a switch

Simply shutting down workstations after an 8-hour workday, when possible, can yield significant energy cost savings and also produces environmental benefits, according to a study published in the November issue of the Journal of the American College of Radiology.

RSNA: Agfa to showcase portfolio of cloud and managed services

Agfa HealthCare (Booth 8350) is introducing an expanded portfolio of cloud and managed service options at the 97th Annual Meeting & Scientific Assembly of the RSNA, Nov. 27 to Dec. 2 in Chicago.

Positron, a New York-based nuclear imaging company, will now provide Upbeat Cardiology Solutions with advanced PET/CT systems and services.

The nuclear imaging isotope shortage of molybdenum-99 may be over now that the sidelined reactor is restarting. ASNC's president says PET and new SPECT technologies helped cardiac imaging labs better weather the storm.

CMS has more than doubled the CCTA payment rate from $175 to $357.13. The move, expected to have a significant impact on the utilization of cardiac CT, received immediate praise from imaging specialists.
