FDA approves Elekta's Extend for Gamma Knife

Elekta announced that its Extend for Leksell Gamma Knife Perfexion has received 510(k) clearance from the FDA, and is now available in the United States.

Extend is a stereotactic treatment program that lets clinicians apply Gamma Knife surgery to a class of targets, including certain cancers of the head and neck, according to the Stockholm, Sweden-based company. With a re-locatable frame and support for fractionated treatments, Extend provides cross functions in both stereotactic radiosurgery and stereotactic radiation therapy for both neurosurgeons and radiation oncologists, Elekta said.
