TomoTherapy introduces TomoMobile
TomoTherapy has launched a mobile radiation therapy product called TomoMobile.
The TomoMobile solution consists of a radiation therapy system within a movable coach that is designed to look like a traditional treatment vault, the firm said. According to the Madison, Wis.-based TomoTherapy, the mobile unit can be used in advance of system installation, while a new facility is being built or to handle case backlogs.
The company said its radiation therapy system is appropriate for a mobile environment because it has a compact profile that integrates imaging and delivery systems into a single, enclosed unit. Additionally, its integral primary beam stops and radiation head shielding reduces radiation leakage so that any further shielding required in the mobile unit is transportable.
Artesian Cancer Center of Muskogee, Okla., is the first facility to implement the new solution while it constructs a new medical office building over the next year. Once a TomoTherapy system is in place in the new facility, Artesian plans to use the TomoMobile in another location where services are needed, according to the company.
