Varian introduces proton therapy system

Varian Medical Systems is introducing the ProBeam proton therapy system at the 2010 Particle Therapy Cooperative Group meeting this week in Gumma, Japan.

The ProBeam system, according to the company, incorporates imaging, gating, robotic patient positioning, treatment planning and oncology information software. It also incorporates Dynamic Peak integrated scanning technology, which establishes a radiation dose in a target volume, enabling intensity modulated proton therapy.

The system includes a streamlined treatment console with a graphical interface that consolidates controls for imaging, treatment and motion management, Varian said.
