Physicians utilize medical imaging to see inside the body to diagnose and treat patients. This includes computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), X-ray, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, angiography,  and the nuclear imaging modalities of PET and SPECT.

The lay media often cast the screening mammo debate in black and white terms. It’s a disservice; breast imagers and physicians realize the issues are far more nuanced. Women’s right to screening is a highly emotionally charged issue, further complicating physicians’ attempts to educate women and often derailing stakeholders’ calls for targeted screening. Peggy Orenstein completed an incredibly detailed review of the risks and benefits of screening and treatment and the role of nonprofit marketing in an article published April 26 in The New York Times magazine.
