The FDA-approved tool works by reprioritizing CTPA exams to the top of a radiologist’s work list when the scan is positive for PE.

 Although rare, SIRVA made its way into headlines following the widespread rollout of COVID vaccines. This prompted a renewed push among the medical community to better define the side effect.

Radiologists used an AI tool-building platform to create their model(s), which allows clinicians the opportunity to develop AI models without any prior training in data sciences or computer programming. 

In a study that included hundreds of radiologist recommendations for additional imaging, there was a threefold increase in follow-up adherence when radiologists utilized a voluntary closed-loop communication tool that required structured recommendations. 

“The effect of lower doses of radiation on the heart and blood vessels may have been underestimated in the past,” experts explained in BMJ.

The accident happened on February 23, and it has since been revealed that it occurred at Kaiser Permanente’s Redwood City Medical Center facility.

Many were concerned that delays in care inflicted by COVID restrictions also would potentially delay diagnoses, causing undue harm for patients.

Up to one-third or more of patients who experience moderate or severe allergic-like reactions to ICM must have their imaging protocols revised when subsequent exams involving contrast are requested.
