Man facing possible prison time after administering CT contrast without license, proper training

A suburban Chicago man is facing up to 12 years in prison after he allegedly injected an imaging contrast agent into a patient without proper training or licensure, the Daily Herald reported Tuesday.

Omayr K. Niazi, 41, is charged with aggravated battery, forgery and wire fraud and may face 4-12 years in prison. He is being held on $100,000 bail as of May 4, the news outlet reported.

Back on Nov. 23, Niazi, who holds a pharmacy technician license, injected a female patient with contrast for a CT scan at Hope Imaging and Medical Center located in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. After the contrast was administered, the patient had a negative reaction in her arm and later called the police, according to the Daily Herald.

An investigation by the local authorities found Niazi wasn’t trained or certified to perform CT scans and discovered he submitted false credentials and reimbursement claims to insurance companies without authorization.

Hope Imaging did not immediately respond to a Health Imaging request for comment.
