Echocardiography

Cardiac ultrasound uses reflected sound waves (echos) to create images of anatomy inside the body. Echocardiograms are the primary cardiac imaging modality used to assess the heart and diagnose or track cardiac issues. Echo is the gold standard imaging modality to assess the heart, particularly with calculating left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), which is a measure of cardiac output. In addition to noninvasive standard transthoracic echo (TTE), invasive transesophgeal echo (TEE) is also used when clearer, more detailed imaging of the heart is needed. Both 3D and 4D echo echo systems are rapidly gaining wider adoption and enable new types of assessments, especially in the structural heart space and in transcatheter procedural guidance. Echocardiography: Better, Stronger, Faster...Smaller

Echocardiography has been the most widely-used diagnostic test forheart disease for more than 50 years for good reason. It’s portable, safe and technological advancements keep the modality at the forefrontof screening and diagnosing heart disease. Looking ahead, cardiologistsare eyeing 4D cardiac imaging and ever-smaller equipment.

Contrast echo demonstrates nuclear perfusion-level accuracy

Contrast-enhanced echocardiography (echo) imaging was well-toleratedand has similar diagnostic performance compared to nuclear perfusion inchest pain patients being evaluated for inducible ischemia.

New guidelines on stress echocardiography released

The Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography todayreleased new recommendations to further support the role of stressechocardiography in accurately identifying coronary artery disease andin determining prognosis of patients with known or suspected coronaryartery disease.

Kardia Health releases new echocardiography software

Kardia Health Systems Inc. has released its web-based EchocardiographyInformation Management System (EIMS), an echocardiography reporting andworkflow solution that guides medical professionals through thecomplete echo process.

Echocardiography: A Beat Ahead in the 21st Century

With better resolution than MR and CT, echocardiography is poised to take the lead in screening and diagnosing heart disease.

Managing Dynamic Images in the Echo Lab

Faster image retrieval, reductions in transcription costs and eliminating repeat studies are among the benefits of ridding your department of videotapes in favor of digitally managing echo exams.

The nuclear imaging isotope shortage of molybdenum-99 may be over now that the sidelined reactor is restarting. ASNC's president says PET and new SPECT technologies helped cardiac imaging labs better weather the storm.

CMS has more than doubled the CCTA payment rate from $175 to $357.13. The move, expected to have a significant impact on the utilization of cardiac CT, received immediate praise from imaging specialists.

The newly cleared offering, AutoChamber, was designed with opportunistic screening in mind. It can evaluate many different kinds of CT images, including those originally gathered to screen patients for lung cancer.
